Scotts Valley Police Department arrested one person for driving under the influence of intoxicants and two subjects were issued citations for driving while their license was suspended at a DUI checkpoint on Dec. 18.

The DUI checkpoint was held at Mt. Hermon Rd between Glen Canyon and Scotts Valley Drive from 7-11pm.

Two drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, approximately 1,000 vehicles were contacted and another 500 were expedited through the checkpoint throughout the night to reduce congestion.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.

The next DUI checkpoint will be held during the summer OTS mobilization period.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
