A 24-year-old Ben Lomond woman remained at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz on Tuesday, Aug. 9, following an alcohol-related crash that shut down a section of Graham Hill Road a week earlier.
Krista Puckett was in critical condition after she reportedly crossed the double-yellow line on a section of road near Sims Road in her black 2007 Ford Mustang on Aug. 2 and struck a gold-colored 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 43-year-old Santa Cruz man.
After firefighters cut both drivers from the destroyed vehicles, Puckett was taken to Dominican with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Silverado was airlifted to Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto, though his injuries were not life-threatening. Two passengers in the Silverado, both men in their early 20s, were also injured.
The crash took place at about 10 p.m. near Sims Road, about a mile from Santa Cruz.
According to California Highway Patrol officer Sarah Jackson, a blood test at the hospital indicated that Puckett was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Puckett was arrested on suspicion of felony driving under the influence of alcohol and released to the hospital’s custody, Jackson said.
