A private memorial service is planned for longtime Scotts Valley resident Edward Mazenko, who died in February. He was 88.
Mr. Mazenko was trained as a U.S. Navy pilot in carrier-based fighters during World War II and was recalled to active duty during the Korean conflict. He followed his military career with work in insurance and real estate.
Mr. Mazenko was the first son of Frank and Sue Mazenko and was proud of his Slovak heritage.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Viola Rector Mazenko of Scotts Valley; two sons, Max Mazenko, and his wife, Carolyn, of Palo Alto and Mark Mazenko of Santa Cruz; a daughter, Kathleen Adams, and her husband, Craig, of Scotts Valley; siblings, Francis of Godfrey of Illinois, Michael Mazenko of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Judy Pence of Champaign, Ill., and Florence Hopper of Roswell, Ga.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Mazenko.
