Despite the wintry June weather, the 2011 Redwood Mountain Faire went about as well as could be expected over the weekend.
While downpours kept all but a few dozen hardy souls indoors Saturday, June 4, the weather lightened up a bit Sunday, June 5, leading to a much improved crowd for the annual event’s second and final day.
The event, designed to serve as a means to both showcase and raise funds for local bands, artists and organizations, was revived last year after a 14-year hiatus by the Valley Women’s Club.
“It ended up being a whole lot of fun,” said VWC board member Nancy Macy. “It was a virtual miracle to have it all work so well in spite of the downpours.”
While the main stage was moved indoors to Roaring Camp’s Bret Harte Hall, almost all the assorted outdoor booths remained open the entire weekend, Macy said.
Macy said that while it was sad that the weather didn’t cooperate, plans for the 2012 event are already under way.
The 2011 event was a far cry from 2010, when scorching temperatures, upward of 100 degrees at Highlands Park in Ben Lomond, were seen at the once-again annual festival.
Other festivals in town were canceled because of the weekend’s rain, which amounted to as much as 3 inches in two days Saturday and Sunday.
