The Scotts Valley lacrosse team made quick work of their hosts, the Aptos Mariners, winning 14-2 on May 6, at Trevor Dilfer field in Aptos. The victory gave the Falcons the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic league title outright and ensured their placement in the Central Coast Section playoffs.
Falcon senior Wesley Koenig led the Falcons with a hat trick (three goals), and four assists and Mitchell Curtiss and Ari Wargon both scored three a piece for Scotts Valley.
Collin Corbella led the assists column for the Falcons, finishing the game with five, and also scored twice on the Mariners defense.
While the attackers had a hayday, putting up 14 points on Aptos’ defense, Joel Clausen and the rest of the Falcon defenders and middies did a bang up job keeping the Mariners out of the back field and away from the goal.
Scotts Valley took an early lead and never looked back. The Falcons were ahead in the final period 14-1 with three minutes left before the Mariners could score their second goal.
“This game really summed up our league play,” Coach Wes Koenig said. “We were firing on all cylinders tonight and Aptos knew it.”
The Falcons finished the regular season with a ___ record.
They will again play Aptos in the SCCAL tournament championship after press-time on Thursday, May 12 at Aptos High.
