The San Lorenzo Valleys girls basketball team remained winless for the 2012 season after they fell to Scotts Valley high School 70-16 in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action.
The Falcons fell behind early when a Cougar three-pointer put them up 3-0 in the opening minutes. The lead would be short-lived as the Falcons clamped down for the rest of the game.
By the end of the first quarter the Scotts Valley girls had a commanding 27-7 lead and by halftime, the score was 44-12 at halftime.
Falcon senior Natalia Ebrahemian, who leads the SCCAL at 20.9 points per game, poured in 24 points and had six assists to lead the Falcons in scoring. Nadene Hart grabbed 11 rebounds and headed up the charge defensively for the Falcons.
“That was a game where everything went exactly to plan,” Falcon Head Coach Jim Hart said.
The Cougars played tenaciously on their home court but could not manage to sink many of the shots they took. .
“We have been missing shots like that all season,” said Cougar Head Coach Jerry Crow. “The girls play very hard every game, but making baskets is not a thing we have down yet.”
The Cougars have averaged 17.8 points per game average through nine games in SCCAL play and have accumulated a 0-17 overall record and a 0-9 SCCAL record.
The Cougar girls fought for possession throughout the game battling for every rebound and reaching for steals at every turn but came up empty handed in their endeavors.
“It looked rough but it wasn’t too bad underneath,” said Falcon forward Nadine Hart. “They played us tough but everything went well for us all around.”
The Cougars looked to end their losing streak on Wednesday Feb. 1 at Aptos High after press time and again at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 against Santa Cruz at home.
The Falcons will look to improve their 6-3 league record with a game on Wednesday after press time against St Francis at home and at 5:30 p.m. against Soquel to avenge a prior loss on Friday Feb. 3.
Scotts Valley currently sits in third in the SCCAL, behind Soquel (8-1 in SCCAL) and Santa Cruz (7-1 in league).
