The 2013 all-Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League teams were announced this month headlined by a strong group of Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley High School athletes. The following is broken down by sport.
Football
Co-MVP
Jake Rehnberg, Running Back, Scotts Valley
Scotts Valley High School running back Jake Rehnberg was named the Co-MVP of the SCCAL along with Aptos High School quarterback Alex Joh.
Rehnberg rushed for a school-record 2,234 yards and added 16 rushing touchdowns and three receiving scores.
The work-horse back rushed for more than 200 yards in seven games including a season-high 287 yards in a win over Harbor High School on Nov. 8.
Rehnberg’s rushing total is third all-time in the SCCAL behind Soquel’s Fabiano Hale’s 2,452 in 2012 and Harbor’s Calvin Keyser-Allen’s 2,360 in 2000.
Rehnberg played both ways and served as a starting linebacker for the Falcons defense.
Offensive Player of the Year
Willie Johnston, running back/receiver, Scotts Valley
Johnston was a multi-use player for the Falcons, registering 799 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns on the ground, along with 593 yards receiving and 7 touchdowns through the air. He scored a team-high and school-record 126 points on the season. On defense, Johnston was no slouch, recording five interceptions.
