A Boulder Creek man was pronounced dead at the scene of a fiery solo vehicle crash on northbound La Madrona Drive last week.
According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, Brendon Youmans, 22, was traveling northbound on La Madrona Drive at approximately 1:55 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8. when he failed to negotiate a left-hand turn and his white 1997 Mercury Mountaineer went down an embankment before it struck a tree and burst into flames.
According to CHP Officer Brad Sadek, it was unclear what caused Youmans’ vehicle to go off the roadway just south of La Madrona Court.
According to Detective Nick Baldrige of the Santa Cruz County Coroner’s Office, Youmans was pronounced dead at the scene due to “inhalation of products of combustion and thermal burns.”
As of Wednesday, Sept. 17, it was unknown if alcohol was a factor in the incident as toxicology reports were still pending.
There were no other vehicles or people involved in the incident.
