The Felton Farmers’ Market welcomes the solstice and the longest days of the year with Summer, Summer, Summer Time—a celebration of the seasonal bounty of summer.
On Tuesday, June 25, during the standard market hours (1:30-5:30pm) at 120 Russell Ave., the heart of Felton comes to life with this special FoodShed Project event.
Free and family friendly, a flurry of activities pop-up around the market as farmers and food artisans throw up their tents to sell the growing array of delicious edibles to grocery shoppers and diners alike.
KERMIT the bicycle, book-mobile from the Santa Cruz Public Libraries offers a summer time scavenger hunt—learn foodie facts, talk to farmers and win a basket of strawberries. Mountain Feed and Farm Supply shows up with a DIY workshop (3-4pm), teaching the basics of kraut making. COCOC the food truck sets out an exciting tasting of their unique flavorful fare and the Penny Ice Creamery serves up mini scoops for free—the first 300.
Jump on the bicycle blender and make your own seasonal smoothie. Visit the art table, get your face painted and listen to some live music. Enjoy lunch or dinner with one of the local businesses rolling out unique meals from Scrumptious Fish and Chips, COCOC, Roli Roti Rotisserie, V & V Delicious Crepes and others. Iced coffee, lemonade and healthful fermented drinks from La Vie keeps everyone cool and refreshed in the sunny mountains.
With over 30 years under its belt, the Felton Farmers’ Market is a celebrated staple of the San Lorenzo Valley.
“As we get deeper into the season and the variety of fruits and vegetables expand with long days and warm weather, remember that the Market connects residents with regional growers from the mountain towns,” said Nicole Zahm, communication and programs manager of Santa Cruz Community Farmers’ Markets.
In addition to the special festivities of Summer, Summer, Summer Time, week in and week out the Market delivers a robust selection of organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, eggs and flowers.
“Joining the farmers are some of the best food artisans in our area,” Zahm said. “Make sure to visit the Penny Ice Creamery with small-batch ice cream, Companion, Beckmann’s and Spontaneous bakeries and all the other offerings of the market—coffee, eggs, seafood, samosas, pastries and other ready-to-eat cuisine. The Market Match continues at $15 for $15 for EBT/CalFresh users.”
Additional FoodShed Project events in 2024 include the Applefest on Sept. 10 and Pumpkin Decorating on Oct. 15. Visit santacruzfarmersmarket.org for more information.
