Sheriff’s deputies have arrested the owner of a scrutinized Felton Empire Road home for allegedly being under the influence of a narcotic and for possession of narcotics for sale.
Jack Smith, 75, was arrested at 9:52 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3 in Santa Cruz, after deputies stopped the blue pick up truck he was driving for a vehicle code violation on Ocean Street.
A deputy found Smith to be under the influence of drugs and a K-9 officer used his partner Ari to sniff for any narcotics in the truck. The K-9 unit found more than 9 grams of cocaine, 4 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale, more than $300 in cash, packaging material and other items related to the sale of cocaine and methamphetamine.
Smith, the owner of 138 Felton Empire Road, a home where more than a 14 drug-related arrests have been made in the past year, was arrested in February for suspicion of possession of ammunition.
Terms of his probation from a past felony narcotics conviction prohibited him from possessing bullets.
