Mountain Community Resources has added free food distribution to the list of services it offers valley residents.
The first food distribution will be Thursday, Nov. 10, at 6134 Highway 9 in Felton and will continue three times a month.
Director Jennifer Anderson-Ochoa said the program is in addition to Valley Churches United Missions’ food distribution.
MCR will give away food collected by Second Harvest Food Bank, while Valley Churches United will continue its independent pantry programs and annual Holiday Projects.
n Food for Children: Food from the USDA commodities program, including fresh fruit and vegetables, will be distributed from 11 a.m. to noon the second Thursday of each month, along with healthy food purchased or donated to Second Harvest.
n Passion for Produce: Second Harvest-trained volunteers will also teach nutrition classes and oversee fresh produce giveaways twice a month. MCR is still determining the dates and times.
This fall is the first time MCR has had a free food distribution. Organizers say it is a response to increased need and requests from valley residents.
