No one was injured as a vacant home on Highway 9 in Felton burned to the ground early Thursday morning.
The two alarm fire began sometime between 12:15 and 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 6794 Highway 9 in Felton. The home is on Highway 9 between Rose Acres Lane and Fall Creek Drive.
Felton Fire Protection District received the call at about 12:30 a.m. and firefighters were able to contain the blaze within 10 or 15 minutes after arriving, according to Felton Fire Chief Ron Rickabaugh.
Despite dry conditions, the weather allowed the blaze to be contained quickly.
“It was calm, no wind,” said Rickabaugh.
A neighboring house, on the south side of the blaze also caught fire and had some external damage, and another neighboring home the north side also caught fire, damaging a window. The cause of the fire was still being investigated midday on Thursday, Rickabaugh said. He said the house may have been undergoing a remodel to be sold.
Firefighters from Ben Lomond, Zayante, Boulder Creek, Cal Fire and Scotts Valley aided in fighting the blaze and a Santa Cruz engine covered Felton Fire station during the blaze.
