The Scotts Valley varsity girls volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League tournament with two wins this week.
The Falcons defeated St. Francis in the first round Monday, Nov. 4, and then knocked off Santa Cruz the following night.
The semifinal against Aptos High School was played after Press-Banner press time on Thursday, Nov. 7.
Against St. Francis, Shelby Kranich led the way, slamming nine kills and six aces in the 25-13, 25-18, 25-16 victory.
Megan Lonhart had 24 assists and Mikayla Fish chipped in six kills while Seryna Tapuloa and Amber Bothman each had five kills. Tapuloa added three aces while serving.
The Falcons then took on Santa Cruz High School on Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Santa Cruz. The Falcons had fallen to the Cardinals in five sets twice during the regular season.
It was a different story in the playoff games as the Falcons dominated the Cardinals 25-17, 25-10, 25-20 in three games.
Juliana Sudfeld had seven kills to lead the team, while Fish chipped in six, Kranich 5 and Bothman 4.
Lonhart was solid, setting up her teammates with 20 assists, while also leading the team with five aces.
San Lorenzo Valley
San Lorenzo Valley High School won its first round matchup with Mt. Madonna 3-2 on Monday, Nov. 4, before succumbing to a tough Harbor High squad in a 3-0 defeat on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The Cougars finished the season 6-11 overall and 3-9 in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League.
