Last November, the Scotts Valley community came together in an extraordinary way to support our schools by passing Measure O, an $85 million bond dedicated to upgrading and modernizing our school facilities. On behalf of the Scotts Valley Unified School District, I extend my deepest gratitude for this tremendous show of support.

Your vote was more than an investment in bricks and mortar. It was an investment in our children, our educators, and the future of our community. Scotts Valley has always taken pride in the strength of its public schools, and this community-driven measure reflects that deep connection. It ensures that our learning environments are safe, functional and inspiring for the 2,000-plus students we serve today, and for generations to come.

Why Measure O Matters

Great schools are at the heart of every thriving community. They provide the knowledge and skills students need, along with safe environments that encourage connection, creativity and growth. Yet, like many districts across California, Scotts Valley Unified has aging facilities that no longer meet today’s educational standards. Measure O allows us to finally address these long-standing needs. Thanks to your support, that vision is becoming reality.

Projects Across Our Schools

The first phase of Measure O projects is underway, focusing on all four of our schools: Scotts Valley High School, Brook Knoll Elementary, Vine Hill Elementary and Scotts Valley Middle School. (NOTE: SVMS received upgrades under school bond Measure A, passed in 2020.)

Planned improvements include:

  • New multipurpose rooms at Vine Hill and Brook Knoll for indoor dining, student assemblies, performances, physical education, and community events.
  • Replacement of playground equipment to ensure safe, engaging play areas for our youngest learners.
  • A new all-weather track and field at Scotts Valley High with permanent bleachers, restrooms, a concession stand, a press box and sand volleyball courts.
  • Upgraded heating and cooling systems to provide year-round comfort.
  • Solar panels to reduce long-term utility costs and promote environmental sustainability.
  • Campus safety improvements.
  • Expanded student technology.
  • Repairs to aging infrastructure, such as leaking roofs, pipes and outdated wiring.

These projects will bring our campuses up to the standard our students and staff deserve.

Vine Hill and Brook Knoll Elementary Schools

Among the highest priorities identified in the 2024 Facilities Master Plan are the comprehensive modernizations of Vine Hill and Brook Knoll. Both campuses will also receive brand-new multipurpose facilities. This summer, the District issued requests for proposals for architectural and engineering services and, after a competitive review, selected tBP Architecture to lead the design process.

Design work begins immediately, with multipurpose buildings and playground equipment construction scheduled to start in summer 2026.

Scotts Valley High School Field and Stadium

At Scotts Valley High School, excitement is building for the new track and field project. This long-awaited upgrade will provide students with a modern, all-weather athletic facility that supports physical education, competitive sports and community use.

The District has completed all required preparatory work and submitted plans to the Division of the State Architect (DSA) for review. Once DSA approval is granted, we will immediately break ground.

Accountability and Transparency

We recognize the trust the community has placed in us. That is why accountability and transparency are central to the Measure O program. All bond expenditures are monitored by a Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC), which provides independent review and ensures every dollar is spent responsibly.

Looking Ahead

As these projects move forward, our community will begin to see visible progress across our school sites. Each step advances the District’s goal to provide safe, modern schools. Thriving schools build the foundation for strong communities, and these projects represent wonderful opportunities for students and staff.

On behalf of Scotts Valley Unified School District, we extend our sincere appreciation for your support of public education and your investment in the future of our students.
