Harbor High football coach cleared in Scotts Valley burglary

Scotts Valley Police detectives have cleared Harbor High School head football coach Travis Rebbert in the burglary of more than $25,500 from his Scotts Valley office last week.
“The coach has been cleared,” investigator Sgt. Jayson Rutherford said on Tuesday afternoon. “We’re no longer looking at him as having any involvement.”
The money – a summer’s worth of fundraised cash and checks – was stolen from the first-year head coach’s office at Jim Leonard’s Home Mortgage Connection sometime during the night of Tuesday, Aug. 25, or the next day.
There was no sign of forced entry and the money was stolen from an unlocked desk drawer in his office.
Rutherford said various interviews police interviews cleared Rebbert and that police hope to make an arrest by the end of this week or early next week.
The community is rallying around the team that has not had a winning season since 2000.
Comerica Bank is waiving stop-payment fees for any Comerica customer who wrote a check to the Harbor High Football program.
Other businesses are holding fundraisers to help cover the football team’s $18,000 budget.
Donations can be sent to Harbor High School, 300 La Fonda Ave. Santa Cruz, CA 95062 and directed to “Football Team.”
