A service will be in August for Harold Basinger, who died of leukemia at the Veterans Affairs Hospice in Palo Alto this month.
Mr. Basinger was born Aug. 28, 1932, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Eva and Russ Basinger.
He grew up in Santa Cruz, graduating from Santa Cruz High School. After serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea, where he was awarded two Purple Hearts, Mr. Basinger attended San Jose State University and then went to work in management for electronic companies including FMC, Hewlett Packard and Meridian Data.
He and his first wife, Laura, lived in Felton with their three children. Laura Basinger died in 1987, and their son Brian died in 1989.
He married Charlotte, his second wife, in 1988 and thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her throughout the U.S. and Europe. The couple also delighted in entertaining friends and family at their Felton home.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Basinger of Felton; daughter, Cheryl Basinger of Felton; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Darlene Basinger of Boulder Creek; a grandson; stepson and daughter-in-law, Paul Bahr and Dr. Catherine Hedden, and their daughters, all of Scotts Valley, brother, David Basinger of Kona, Hawaii; sister, Marilyn Tara of Aptos; and many nieces and nephews.
Military honors will be bestowed Aug. 26 during graveside services at Felton Cemetery.
Santa Cruz Memorial will handle arrangements.
