Students The Scotts Valley High School Haunted House presented a check for $9,399.01 to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during a school board meeting this week.
The money is the proceeds from the school’s annual haunted house production that takes place the week before Halloween night.
Students work through the fall building sets, designing costumes, planning logistics, and creating a story.
“These students are very passionate about the Haunted House, and we never have a problem securing volunteers,” said Erik Wyner, Scotts Valley High School teacher and Haunted House advisor in a release. “They enjoy the planning and execution, and of course, helping others and supporting a great cause.”
This year’s was the 11th annual haunted house and it ran for three nights, Oct. 24, 25 and 26. More than 200 students participated in a carnival-themed event. The $9,299.01 raised earned the title of the highest fundraising high school program this year in the entire Greater Bay Area Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, according to the organization.
Among the house’s sponsors, Scarborough Lumber in Scotts Valley has supported the Haunted House for years by providing lumber and other supplies at cost to build the many rooms visitors walk through.
