Infant immunization encouraged
Several national and state agencies, along with the Santa Cruz County Health Services Agency, sponsored National Infant Immunization Week from April 23 to 30. The groups emphasized the importance of timely vaccinations for infants, older children and adults.
Officials say it’s especially important to fully immunize children ages 2 and younger against preventable diseases
“We can now protect more children and adults in California from more diseases than ever before,” said local health officer Poki Namkung, in a prepared statement. “In light of the recent pertussis (whooping cough) epidemic throughout California, we especially encourage parents and caregivers to be immunized against pertussis, which they can pass to their children. Take the time to keep your children and yourself on track with immunizations to ensure a healthy family.”
