The strongest storm of the rainy season brought down trees, causing power failures as well as damage to homes and vehicles in the San Lorenzo Valley on Saturday night, Nov. 20, and into Sunday morning.
Heavy wind, rain, thunder and lightning bludgeoned the San Lorenzo Valley on Saturday night, with most of the significant damage in Felton.
Highway 9 between San Lorenzo Avenue and Redwood Drive in Felton was blocked that night and most of the day Sunday as Pacific Gas and Electric Co. crews repaired power lines that were knocked down by trees across the roadway. Most homes in Felton were without electricity into Sunday.
A tree also fell on the bedroom of a home on Buckeye Drive in Felton.
In Mount Hermon, trees fell on two guest buildings, causing significant damage. The first fell on Sequoia Lodge, an eight-room facility, and the other on a three-room cabin on Park Way. No one was staying in either building.
Mount Hermon Chief Operations Officer Alden Johanson said Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center is in the process of removing the trees and assessing the damage.
“I guess it’s one of the prices you pay for living in a beautiful place,” he said.
Conference Drive in Mount Hermon was temporarily blocked by fallen trees Saturday night and Sunday morning.
In Boulder Creek, a tree fell into a house off Acorn Drive, but there were no significant road slipouts in the area, Boulder Creek Fire Protection District Chief Kevin McClish said.
In Boulder Creek, the storm dropped more than 4 inches of rain, and in Bonny Doon, the storm dropped close to 3 inches over a two-day span, Nov. 19 and 20.
After a partly cloudy Thanksgiving, weather forecasts show rain moving in on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 27 and 28, and then sunny skies starting Monday and lasting into the week.
