Gleaming autos of yesteryear by the hundreds will be in Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz as three popular car shows return this summer.
Launching the season is Woodies on the Wharf on June 27 at the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf.
The Scotts Valley Peace Officers Association presents the Cops ’n’ Rodders Car Show and Cruise on July 18, and the Santa Cruz Police Officers Association stages the Hot Rods at the Beach Car Show on Oct. 10 and 11 at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
Admission is free to all three shows.
Woodies on the Wharf
The quintessential surf wagon and other vehicles with wood as at least part of their bodies roll in more than 200 strong for a free display from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 27 on the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf.
Now in its 14th year, the county’s earliest annual car event is sponsored by Santa Cruz Woodies, the city of Santa Cruz and the Wharf Merchants Association. Participants come from throughout the West, and sometimes an even eastern car or two appear.
Parking on the wharf is in short supply, and visitors are advised to park on land and walk to the wharf.
Cops ’n’ Rodders
Now in its 16th year, the granddaddy of the county’s car shows starts with check-in of preregistered cars at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk from 7 to 8 a.m. July 18.
Drivers of the first 150 cars will cruise along the coast to Capitola before heading to Siltanen Park in Scotts Valley for the show.
The show is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Judging for first and second place in each of 30 divisions will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m., with awards presented from 1 to 2 p.m. Gravity-only drag races on Vine Hill School Road start at noon.
Proceeds will benefit local school and youth programs.
Hot Rods at the Beach
More than 500 hot rods and other classic cars will be the centerpiece of this free extravaganza Oct. 10 and 11.
Proceeds totaling more than $10,000 each year are used by the sponsoring Santa Cruz cops for high school industrial arts scholarships.
In addition to the cars at this year’s 12th annual show are a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. both days, a police dog demonstration at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, deejay music and prize drawings.
The cars will be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
