A jazz twist: Michael Mendoza (left) and Paul Kent of the Houserockers kick out the jams during the Music at Skypark event Sunday, July 31.

About 800 people enjoyed the second of four free Music at Skypark concerts Sunday, July 31. Many folks danced to the rock and horn sounds of Houserockers, which returned to this concert series for the third year in a row. Ben Lomond’s Coffis Brothers opened the concert with well-received folk-rock tunes.
Concert promoters Scotts Valley Kiwanis Foundation and Scotts Valley Arts Commission were joined by the Exchange Club and other volunteers to help run the concert. New school district Superintendent Penny Weaver made her public debut at the concert and met with local residents and media.
Music at Skypark has raised about $17,000 so far for the music programs at Scotts Valley’s four public schools through concert sponsorships, food and alcohol sales, T-shirts and raffle tickets.
Music at Skypark continues with its final two concerts: Aug. 25, featuring Extra Large and A La Lune, and Sept. 25, with Le Strange and My Stupid Brother on the stage.
