In June, 2016, a memorial ceremony with military honors will be held for John Hogel who passed away at his home in Watsonville following a brief illness.
Hogel served his country in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1962. Along with his tour in the Korean War, he also served in the Cold War.
A longtime resident of Bonny Doon, he and his family moved there in 1968 and shared many happy times while raising animals and vegetables and working outdoors on the ranch. Hogel commuted to his job working at several Bay Area hospitals as a hospital maintenance engineer and was instrumental in the maintenance design of DominicanHospital when it opened in 1968.
He and his wife Audra enjoyed traveling in their motor home. Audra preceded Hogel in death in 2011. The couple leaves many friends and fellow travelers whose adventures and stories will continue to be told.
He leaves his four children: Frances Farmer of Watsonville, Donna Hogel and Judy Pettit both of Oregon, and John William Hogel of Marina. He also leaves his brother, Richard Hogel of Ohio, eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
