Longtime Ben Lomond resident John Joseph “Jack” Sullivan died April 15, 2010, in Santa Cruz at the age of 85.
Born March 17, 1925, in Los Angeles to John Joseph Sullivan and Gladys Zurheid of St. Louis, Mo., Mr. Sullivan served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II as an electronics technician during the Pacific campaign of Gen. Douglas MacArthur.
After the war, Mr. Sullivan worked more than 30 years in the automotive industry in Los Gatos and in the land and real estate sales industry in the San Lorenzo Valley.
He was a runner who regularly participated in the Race Thru the Redwoods, Wharf to Wharf, Bean Creek Run and Bay to Breakers. Relatives said Mr. Sullivan made friends wherever he went.
He is survived by his children, John Joseph Sullivan Jr. of Boulder Creek and Melinda Lee Nichols of Ben Lomond; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Sullivan’s ashes will be scattered in Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.
