Larry Duncan

A vigil and funeral Mass will take place this weekend for longtime Boulder Creek resident Larry Duncan, who died at home after battling cancer. He was 66.
Mr. Duncan was born in Fairfield, and his family moved to Hayward, where the family business, Duncan & Son Petroleum Inc., was established. He graduated from Hayward High School in 1966 and became a partner of the business until it was sold.
Mr. Duncan was a lifetime member of the Union City Lions Club and a Melvin Jones Fellow. He served as club president from 1977 to 1978 and was elected as the Lions Club district governor from 1981 to 1982. He also served a term as president of the Union City Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Duncan collected cars and antiques and enjoyed cruising to foreign countries with his wife.
The family moved from Alameda County to Boulder Creek in 1991. The Duncans remodeled the house of their dreams on the ninth fairway of the Boulder Creek Country Club, where they cultivated their passion for gardening, raising orchids, roses and lilacs.
Mr. Duncan served as president of the Boulder Creek Men’s Golf Club in 1997.
Mr. Duncan was a devoted baseball, football, and golf fan of the San Lorenzo Valley schools and Little League. He watched many games and traveled to watch his grandsons compete.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Leah Duncan; a son, Joseph George, and his wife, Stephanie Lue Smith; and two grandsons, all of Boulder Creek.
Also surviving are a sister, Jennifer Duncan-Boyden, and her husband, David, of Hayward; a niece; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry N. and Margaret H. Duncan; and a sister, Janice Duncan Mitchell.
A vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19, and a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20. Both services are at St. Michael’s Church, 13005 Pine St., in Boulder Creek.
