Learn How to File for Upcoming Election on Monday

Two seats on the Scotts Valley City Council, as well as spots on the Santa Cruz County Board of Education, the boards of local school districts and fire protection districts will be for election in November. Anyone interested in challenging for any of these seats can find out how Monday evening in Scotts Valley as the Santa Cruz County Elections Department will be co-sponsoring a Candidate Information Workshop at the Scotts Valley Council Chambers, 1 Civic Center Drive, from 6-7:30 p.m.
It’s one of four local workshops to be held. Two days later, on June 25, there will be workshop in Watsonville and then on June 26, another at the Santa Cruz Council Chambers, 809 Center St., from 6-7:30 p.m. One Monday, June 30, the final forum will be held at the Capitola Council Chambers, 430 Capitola Ave., from 6-7:30 p.m.
A number of local offices will be up for grabs; the seats of Scotts Valley City Council Members Stephany Aguilar and Jim Reed are among them. The term of Aaron Hinde, who serves as Trustee for Area 1 on the Santa Cruz County Board of Education, is also expiring. Area 1 encompasses most of the San Lorenzo Valley as well as Scotts Valley.
Other offices that are up for grabs include seats on the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District for Trustee Areas 1, 2 and 4; three seats on Scotts Valley Unified School District Board; two seats on the Mountain Elementary School District Board; two seats on the Ben Lomond Fire Board of Directors, two on the Boulder Creek Fire Board, two on the Felton Fire Board, two on the Zayante Fire Board and two on the Scotts Valley Fire Board.
Local water districts also have seats up for grabs, including Lompico County Water, (2) San Lorenzo Valley Water (3), and Scotts Valley Water (3). Even the Boulder Creek Recreation and Park District has two seats up for election.
