The first Golden Gate Salmon Association Dinner is now behind us and proved to be a great success. Coming up is the Monterey Bay Salmon Trout Project Albacore Dinner on Nov. 12 in Castroville.
These events are great for the community to get together with a common goal to raise money for our fish.
The Golden Gate Salmon Association had a wonderful dinner at the Portuguese Hall in Santa Cruz on Oct. 14. The event drew close to 175 people and was very well staffed and received by the guests. With a delicious dinner and a professional auctioneer, the night was full of entertainment. The prizes included Sage fly rods and vacation retreats that were auctioned off. There were plenty of winners among the crowd.
“We were very happy with the response from the community and know that next year’s event will be even bigger,” said Joe Donatini, a board member for the GGSA.
The proceeds from the dinner will go to GGSA’s efforts to increase salmon stocks in the Central Valley Rivers of California.
This dinner was the fifth dinner scheduled this year in the greater San Francisco Bay area. The proceeds help GGSA work to bring salmon back with a broad spectrum of ideas and techniques. The group has a diverse board of directors, and I think they are on their way to success for salmon.
Nov. 12 is the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project’s 34th annual Albacore Feed. This is a fun event for the whole family.
There are so many raffle items and silent auction items that everyone who attends and buys raffle tickets will win something. The albacore is cooked deliciously and is usually accompanied with french bread, salad and cake for dessert.
The MBSTP Albacore feed is at the Castroville Rotary Club and begins with a no-host bar at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the raffle at 7 p.m. Tickets are $17 and will be available in advance or at the door.
For information or tickets, email me or go to www.mbstp.org. I hope to see you for a night of fun with families and fish talk.
All proceeds go to MBSTP and its efforts for our local salmon and steelhead.
