EDITOR,
Is Bruce McPherson pro-environment? Should you take the word of his endorsers? Personally, I’d rather check his environmental voting record while he served in the state legislature.
Since 1973, the California League of Conservation Voters has tallied pro- and anti-environmental votes in each year’s state legislative session.
According to CLCV, in 2004 — his last year in office as a state senator — McPherson voted pro-environment only 6 percent of the time, compared to the average state Senate Democrat, who voted pro-environment 87 percent of the time.
Of course, considering that Sen. McPherson was a Republican then, his environmental voting record didn’t look so pathetic. The average Republican voted pro-environment only 1.5 percent of the time.
We deserve true environmental leadership in Santa Cruz County. I support Eric Hammer for 5th District Supervisor.
