EDITOR,
It was a pleasure to read Sandi Olson’s article (“Czech emigrant shares her family’s daring escape,” Sept. 9, Page 9) about my long-time friends, the Pacaks. I was instrumental in Vojtech getting a job here at TRIUMF, the world-class particle accelerator. The Czechoslovak community helped, and we all escaped from the Communist terror in our native country and supported one another. Long years of friendship and skiing followed. Later, Vojtech went to Texas to help build the Superconducting Super Collider accelerator until, unfortunately, the project was stopped by former President Bill Clinton. Finally, the family moved to Scotts Valley. I visited several times your nice town, and Eva always came to ski Whistler with me.
