Letter: An alternative to school parcel tax

Let’s see — $98 per parcel, per year, creates $700,000 for the school district to spend as they see fit. This is assuming 7,140 parcel owners would be willing on the ballot.
If 2,250 students convinced their parents to donate $10 per month per child to create a teacher’s salary fund, for holding and hiring teachers only, that adds up to $270,000 per year — and that’s a start.
Then let the little lobbyists go out and get Grandma and Grandpa to kick in $10 per month. Wow — we just hit $540,000 per year.
If there was a child without grandparents for whatever reason, I for one would sponsor a child for $10 a month. A couple of times a month, I control my addiction for those $6 Jamba Juices, and I am home free to guarantee my pledge.
For those seniors on a fixed income — leave them alone.
