Letter: Bag fees present an unequal burden

This should certainly be a boon for business at the Scotts Valley Safeway, to the detriment of the Felton Safeway (“Locals prepare for plastic bag ban,” page 20, Nov. 11). It won’t take many bag fees to pay for the extra three miles round trip. We are protected against this nonsense, in federal law, by two concepts: equal protection under the law for individuals and the common welfare for localities. Of course, the politicians have been ignoring or changing the meaning of these two concepts for two centuries. So is this bag ban/fee just a poorly thought-out law, or is our county board of supervisors really playing favorites?
