EDITOR,
I’ll be 90 in a couple of years and the article about Big Mike (“Fundraiser set for coach with brain tumor,” Aug. 30, Page 5), brought back to memory an event that happened in the middle of WWII.
Submarines were below every ocean, warships and cargo ships on top, bombers above; all trying to destroy each other. There was a net across the Golden Gate to stop enemy subs. One did surface down south and shelled some oil tanks. A thousand bombers could gather over Britain and then drop thousands of tons of bombs on enemy cities. That was our daily news for years.
Then a little girl in Texas, I think her name was Kathy, fell down a well pipe for a day or two and all our concern was how to get her out. She was rescued safely.
One of our neighbors has fallen into a well — it will take more effort to bring him up. He is strong, we can do it!
