Letter: Corrupt money at core of problem

In last week’s opinion piece (“Occupy Washington, not Wall Street,” Page 6, Nov. 11) Mark Rosenberg claims that we should be occupying Washington, D.C., and not Wall Street, because the latter’s policies allowed Wall Street to do what it did. Mark misses the more important point that it is Wall Street that spent hundreds of millions in lobbying our representatives to create policies that allowed them to so damage our economy in favor of their profits.
Republicans and Clinton administration Wall Street cronies (Larry Summers and Robert Rubin) pushed for the repeal of Glass-Steagall, not for the good of the economy, but for Wall Street profits. Until we eliminate the corrupt money in politics, we can only expect our form of government to further deteriorate into the corporate-ocracy that it has become.
To quote a sign from Occupy Wall Street, “I will believe that a corporation is a person when Texas executes one.”
