Letter: County neglects Bonny Doon

During the last two years, most Bonny Doon roads have not been repaired, potholes remain unfilled, roadside drainage ditches have not been cleaned out, and roadside vegetation has not been cut back. In some areas, such as Martin Road, roadside vegetation has even reclaimed half of one traffic lane. The county contends that its public works budget is severely underfunded, even while the county is busy constructing road repair projects elsewhere, such as on Graham Hill Road, Mount Hermon Road and Glenwood Road.
Bonny Doon residents have historically supported the county’s zoning and area general plan, the Coastal Commission, limited development, Measure J, many environmental and conservation initiatives, limitations on the proposed Cemex Quarry expansion, limitations on proposed UCSC growth, tax measures, etc. What is our reward? It is near-zero road maintenance. Thanks so much.
Maybe the next time that the county supervisors want Bonny Dooners to support something, like re-election or a fire tax increase for county fire, we should not be so quick to approve.
