Letter: Don’t let Scotts Valley develop away all its natural beauty

EDITOR,
I am writing with concern about all the new development in Scotts Valley.
I grew up in Sunnyvale when there were orchards and open space. As that disappeared, my friends and I would come to the mountains for relief and fun. We reluctantly returned home to “The Pit” as we dubbed Santa Clara Valley. It was not meant in a flattering way.
I live in Boulder Creek now and feel so very lucky to be here. It is not a life of convenience. My basement floods every year (except this one),we’ve had skunks move in twice (the dogs still don’t heed that danger!) and I’ve replaced the big skylight twice in five years due to falling branches. Power outages, etc. We all have similar stories.
But we trade convenience for the incredible beauty around us. A more basic lifestyle. A great community. Open space and trees.
Please, Scotts Valley, don’t let your beauty become another Pit.
There’s a song “They paved paradise and put up a parking lot, took all the trees and put them in a tree museum, charged the people a dollar and a half just to see ’em. Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.”
