EDITOR,
In regards to the letters that support the ban on plastic bags and fees to be charged for paper bags: What some people don’t seem to get is the fact that, in general, we’re not opposed to the ban on plastic bags. The problem that many of us are concerned with is too darn much government involvement in our lives.
Thanks to Mark Stone, who now wants to be a state assemblyman and totally believes in shoving government proposals down our throats, those of us who want to continue to use paper bags will have to pay for them. And the fees go entirely to the retailers. That really makes a lot of sense.
However, if you’re economically challenged, you don’t have to pay anything. Gouge the middle class one more time, Mr. Stone. I believe if someone is happy using those ridiculous reusable bags, they should be allowed to. But don’t demand that those of us who don’t want to lug them around must follow your desires. And I’ll guarantee you that when those things end up at the dump, they’ll be disintegrating for years — compared to a few weeks at the most for paper bags.
How about letting some of us make up our own minds and quit trying to save us from ourselves all the time? Honestly, what gives you righteous bunch of overreacting environmentalists the power to continually change all our lives?
