EDITOR,
I was amused by the complaints in the most recent Press-Banner letters (Dec. 11). I salute the Press-Banner for printing them, as they reflect the public opinion on both sides.
The controversy over Target was met with significant resistance, as reported. “Thanks for nothing” was an opposing view. Fair enough!
I think we have to back up and examine the reasons some of us moved here. The beauty of the area and rural atmosphere brought me here. I knew I would have to shop elsewhere at the “big-box” stores when necessary. If these stores were a priority, I would have moved to San Jose.
As for insensitivity (“Time for some taste”), the Press-Banner reports public record, just like other newspapers. No privacy issues are violated. There is an advantage to reporting some crimes. Police receive information and leads from articles in the paper. Some of the “big newspapers” do the same thing with less factual accuracy or sensitivity. Those arrested are often not model citizens.
Police do not arbitrarily arrest people. Evidence is required before doing so. Insensitivity is a perception. Responsible reporting is not insensitive — just the facts, sir.
