EDITOR,
Last night I had the pleasure of attending Eric Hammer’s campaign kickoff at Scopazzi’s in Boulder Creek, as he begins the race to become the next 5th District supervisor. As a Santa Cruz County native who recently moved to the San Lorenzo Valley, the evening exemplified everything I’ve come to love about my new home: wonderful, diverse, genuine and community-minded people coming together to show their support — and joy at supporting! — someone who personifies the notion of community service and local involvement.
Since settling into the mountains with my young family, I have been continually impressed with the large number of people I have met and see around our towns on a daily basis who — on top of the “extra” work we all must do to ensure food and shelter in these trying times — find some way to volunteer their time, energy, knowledge and skills to partake and participate in the positive evolution of the valley. These people, with Eric Hammer at the forefront, have dedicated themselves to creating a sustainable and dynamic bridge between the region’s storied past and a productive future that incorporates deep history, environmental protection, sustainable development and, always, resources and delights for our children as they age and educate. This grassroots community spirit is, for someone who has lived in many different locales around the world, simply exceptional.
I am delighted to support Eric Hammer’s run for the 5th District supervisor seat and believe he is not merely the best choice, but the perfect person for the job.
