EDITOR,
I wanted to thank the Press-Banner for covering Hats, Hops, Hucks, the ultimate Frisbee tournament that takes place in our valley every summer. This year has been my fourth year as a participant, and it truly is a phenomenal tournament.
I started playing ultimate in seventh grade as a student in the Nature Academy at SLV and continued playing in college on a traveling club team. My favorite aspect of the sport is the spirit of the game — which is the emphasis on honesty and fun on the field (especially important because games are self-refereed).
I also enjoy the silly uniforms and added flair you’ll find at a match. Men in skirts, players in prom dresses and sparkly disco attire are not uncommon. Despite the goofy appearance of players, the sport draws many serious athletes and includes defensive and offensive strategies and plays.
If you are interested in giving Ultimate a try, Hats, Hops, Hucks is a welcoming place to start. Every team has its beginners and seasoned veterans, and so much can be learned over two days of play.
