EDITOR,
I am a Boy Scout in Troop 633 in Santa Cruz. My name is Branden Caldwell. I am working on my last two merit badges for my Eagle Scout. I am writing to you about students having to pay to play sports at their school. Many parents have to pay for their child to play sports when they don’t have any money to pay the bills. Students at some of the schools in Santa Cruz County have to pay for sports, but San Lorenzo Valley High School and middle school families don’t have to pay for their children to play sports. We have a great Booster Club that would pay for every student to do sports. They raise money, around $10,000, through bingo and other activities. All of the SLVHS parents help our school raise that money so we don’t have to pay for sports. Why don’t other schools around California raise money for their schools?
