EDITOR,
Having been professionally and personally involved for the past 30-plus years in conservation and preservation in the Santa Cruz Mountains and particularly in the San Lorenzo Valley, we are writing in unqualified support of Bruce McPherson for supervisor of the 5th District. As chief deputy director of California State Parks, my interactions with the legislature reaffirmed Bruce’s knowledge, integrity and commitment to environmental protection, as well as to public safety. On many occasions, we witnessed Bruce’s ongoing commitment to the San Lorenzo Valley through our mutual involvement with the Sempervirens Fund and its efforts to preserve Big Basin and Henry Cowell redwoods state parks. Bruce has successfully built on his family’s legacy of environmental protection and assuring accessibility to these pristine areas dating back to the early 20th century. Bruce has consistently and persistently provided leadership in the areas of education, local government, environmental protection, public safety and the arts in Santa Cruz County, as a member of the state Legislature and as California secretary of state. He will be the best choice to represent the residents of the 5th District and of Santa Cruz County.
