EDITOR,
Readers of this publication might recall that I was a strong supporter of George Wylie for the position of District 5 county supervisor. Like many of you, I was saddened when George pulled out of the race, but I understand why he ended his campaign. Faced now with a choice between Bruce McPherson and Eric Hammer, I have listened carefully to these two candidates. I even served as the moderator for one of the candidate forums. I admit that I was initially ambivalent, but I can now say that I am convinced that Bruce McPherson is, by far, our best choice for county supervisor. Sure, I’ve heard the critics say that Bruce is not a “valley guy.” Some have unfairly called him a “carpetbagger” from Pasatiempo who doesn’t understand the valley and our needs. These claims are simply false. Not only is Bruce a lifelong county resident with a deep knowledge of the entire region, I’ve seen Bruce walking the hilly streets of Zayante knocking on doors, attending unpublicized school district events and making countless phone calls to everyday citizens to learn about the issues we face. He understands us and will serve us well. He is driven by a desire to advance our democratic ideals and civic growth. Of course I knew of Mr. McPherson before this race. His record of accomplishments is impressive — imagine a former California secretary of state representing us! — but now I know Bruce the man, and I am convinced that he will be a superb advocate for the valley who will help us to get our fair share of the county’s resources. Please join me in voting for Bruce McPherson on Nov. 6.
