EDITOR,
I am a longtime resident and property owner in Scotts Valley. There are numerous things that I love about our city (great schools, local businesses, friendly people, etc.). I was shocked and dismayed recently when some members of the City Council acted in a most unprofessional manner toward an applicant attempting to have his project approved. I should state that this applicant is under contract with my family and others, so we do have a monetary interest in the outcome. But to mention my late husband’s opinions and to verbally berate anyone or attempt to goad someone into a fight is dastardly and repulsive.
The fact of the matter is that about three years ago, the City Council had unanimously approved the Stonegate project on our piece of property.
The present applicant, Jim Sullivan, has refined that previously approved project in order to create more open space, save hundreds of mature trees and actually build detached townhomes rather than attached condominiums. There will be about a 40 percent reduction in the total number of units that had previously been approved. To think that this new and improved proposed development provides “too much on too little” is absurd.
This should be a boon to Scotts Valley Drive and a great project for the city of Scotts Valley. I know that it is something that my late husband would be extremely proud of.
