Enough “Stuff” I love a good yard sale, and I have to admit that when I first saw the Stuff Sale sign in the parking lot of the furniture store at 6185 Graham Hill Road, I thought “oh boy!” and immediately stopped to check it out.
Unfortunately, try as I might, I could not find a single thing worth buying amid the chaotic piles of dusty, chipped, broken, and generally unusable junk. I drove away thinking the owners must have been spring cleaning, and decided to have a sale before loading everything into a dumpster. I expected that everything would be gone by Monday morning.
That was two years ago, and though I cannot imagine that anyone ever buys anything from the Stuff Sale, the same ugly old sign and the same heaps of outdated electronics, crusty hotel ashtrays, stained furniture, and yellowed books have been dutifully trotted out again and again, and often left overnight, rain or shine.
Periodically, I’ve seen would-be shoppers picking through the mess, but the “stuff” never seems to diminish, and the “sale” never ends.
It. Never. Ends.
Am I the only one who thinks this is an eyesore?
We are lucky to live in a beautiful mountain environment that is relatively unpolluted and litter-free. When I drive down Graham Hill to go into Felton, I am always struck by the way the sunny, tree-studded little valley opens up out of the redwoods, and by the beauty of the setting of the town of Felton, nested as it is in a ring of green hills.
Why would anybody want to trash it up?
Owners of the perpetual Stuff Sale, I beg you: free yourselves and your community of this blight. Feng Shui your parking lot.
Let go of the burden of the past, unclutter your karma, release that which does not serve you … and please, please, please, throw away your junk.
