EDITOR,
I’d like to thank the city of Scotts Valley, firefighters, police and the unselfish volunteers for the wonderful Fourth of July celebration. Throughout history, when our country has been the most stressed by the Great Depression, wars, environmental disasters and, yes, raging forest fires, it has been these simple, down-home pleasures that have provided some relief. The city’s decision to hold this event shows a willingness to honor these traditions, even during these difficult economic times. Just like those credit card commercials, what I witnessed last night at Skypark — families and friends spending time together laughing, talking, dancing and children racing around playing — was truly priceless!
