Vandalizing signs threatens our voice and community

Dear Editor and Neighbors, I love living in Scotts Valley. I love my neighbors. I was shocked to see, when I retrieved my mail, my political yard sign missing.

My roommate saw a man walking a dog rip it out and throw it into the bushes. I replaced my sign and today, once again, it’s missing. Two similar signs on public corners are also missing.

Rather than address the political issue on the sign, I’d like to address a more serious issue. Vandalizing campaign signs is no joke. It silences freedom of speech. It is against the law and is a demeaning expression stating, “You have no voice here!”

Yes, I love my neighbors, even the one(s) that stole my signs. I am happy to share why this issue is important to me. You don’t have to agree. You are my neighbor and welcome to come have a cup of tea. Our differences keep us asking important questions and get us out of echo chambers.
