Shout-out: Redwood Mountain Faire
Dear Editor,
Thank you for the delightful article about The Redwood Mountain Faire by Carol Carson. She highlighted so many special aspects of the Faire and has a wonderful way with words.
I wanted to point out something about the Joe Shreve photo that you included. It looks like very few folks were there. This is because it was taken on the morning of the 2011 Faire, which just happened to be the weekend that it rained buckets Friday and part of Saturday, and was threatening to rain Sunday.
Even so, people of all ages came, enjoyed, and danced! With the main stage moved inside Bret Hart Hall, and other adjustments made for the weather. (Believe me, it’s a rain or shine event and great either way.)
Happily, in spite of the rain keeping people away, thanks to the frugality of the Faire Steering Committee, the hundreds of volunteers keeping costs down, and the generosity of local businesses supporting the Faire through sponsorships and discounts, the 2011 Faire provided $6,000 to local nonprofits. By 2013, that amount was $40,000, and as Carol Carson pointed out, in 2014 these vital organizations shared $50,000.
I hope everyone will check out the wonderful Redwood Mountain Faire website, www.redwoodmountainfaire.com, for lots of information, photos of more recent Faires, and an amazing “fly-over” video to truly experience this memory-making community event.
Gratefully,
Nancy Macy, Faire Steering Committee member
Shout-out: Redwood Mountain Faire
Editor,
Thank you for Carol Carson’s well-written article about the Redwood Mountain Faire. I had to laugh at the archive photo of the 2011 Faire! We had 3 inches of rain that Saturday, and still, hardy local folks showed up to celebrate their community!
The Meadow Stage was so wet, we moved the bands to Bret Harte Hall. The canopy covered Creekside Stage was surrounded by umbrellas and yellow rain gear-clad dancers!
Since then, the Faire has grown into this wonderful, two-day celebration featuring music, local art, great beers, wines, and food. Plus it’s a great way to visit with folks you don’t see every day.
The proceeds are shared with all the non-profit organizations that supply volunteers for the event. What better way to support this wonderful community we have! A great big thank you to everyone who works to bring us this Faire.

Letter: Delayed Sentencing for Eric Frank Greene
Dear Editor,
On April 2, 2015, Santa Cruz County Superior Judge Stephen Siegel delayed sentencing for Eric Frank Greene, who has plead no contest to a felony charge of lewd acts with a minor.
Greene admittedly molested two young girls. Judge Seigel stated, “I haven’t made an ultimate decision, but I am contemplating probation,” because of the convicted molester’s advanced age and severe hearing loss.
I am appalled that Judge Siegel would reduce a sentence for any child molester; I fail to understand how the criminal’s old age and severe hearing loss should reduce the punishment for his horrific actions. Certainly, his age did not grant him moral decency; he admittedly molested his stepdaughter and granddaughter who now face a lifetime recovery from childhood trauma.
I will be watching for Judge Seigel’s decision and will remember the outcome when election time arrives.
