EDITOR,
I respectfully disagree with both the position and the press coverage that Frank Kertai is given on his stance on the retail project at Gateway South. The entire city knows the minority objections and their agenda, and he/they are forever beating a dead horse with old and flawed data.
I agree with Lynette Johnson that it was unfortunate the Target project lost momentum — and we must continue to do business with Target of Watsonville, because the adversaries fight every effort to keep out any retail project located near the entrance to their residential development. I applaud the city for its efforts with Target and its continued effort for a replacement retail business at that location.
In contrast to the condemnation of the City Council in “shirking its responsibility,” I believe they know that their responsibility to our citizens is to bring revenue and consumer shopping to our community, and they have demonstrated that continuously with their Town Center project, the Gateway South efforts and in nearly every effort they make in support of fiscal responsibility for our community.
I have seen no plausible reasons among the opponents’ list of objections for a retail project at Gateway South that makes any logical sense whatsoever. I would hope that the Press-Banner will give more balanced reporting on this issue, rather than allowing Kertai a platform for his tired old rhetoric.
