SLVWD should also address critical topics

Kudos to the SV Water District for their piece on wildfires and their dynamics with water agencies (“A Water Agency’s Perspective on Fighting Wildfires,” May 9).

Where is the SLV Water District on these critical topics? What areas have lower water pressure that would be affected by an event similar to what happened in the Palisades? How will the District handle a dramatic demand on the water supply in a major wildfire incident?

Are our fire hydrants adequately maintained so they will work when firefighters need them? How are you coordinating with our local fire departments?

Restaurants missing in Scotts Valley

We were not surprised that the Scotts Valley Cosa Nostra Italian place closed down a few months ago. Scotts Valley is not North Beach in San Francisco. With its small portions, fluorescent lighting and expensive food, people did not go.

Many of us miss the old Mollies that was in the former spot. With a new Chipotle about to open at the much-missed Chubbies, SV is still missing some good places to eat. With only one or two popular breakfast places, the valley area does not have a great selection of fish or Italian places to go to. Most of the franchise burger places are here, but as Scotts Valley keeps growing someday maybe we will get a Five Guys or In and Out.

There are plenty of Mexican, taco, sushi and pizza joints, but it’s hard to find even a place that serves home-cooked dinner meals. Thank God for the Trout Farm in Felton, with its homemade meatloaf and real mashed potatoes—not instant or watered down like the other places around town.

Someone should have opened the Twister Cafe at the old Chubbies location. The tourists would have loved it. Leave a few of the turned over cars outside left from the brief twister that hit the place out front. Inside, have a mini hurricane cyclone hit every 15 minutes with wind and seats shaking. Offer the twister burger and whirlwind shake.

Let’s hope better places to eat come in soon. Food-hungry customers in SV are tired of the lack of quality and atmosphere; they have the money to spend.
