The Santa Cruz County Library Joint Powers Authority will likely make a decision about the future of the Santa Cruz County Library System during its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the Louden Nelson Community Center, 301 Cedar St., in Santa Cruz.
Library leaders heard from the public Monday, Feb. 7, after four possible budget scenarios were presented.
Library staff recommends Service Model D, which would eliminate the Felton Branch from the system along with the Branciforte, Garfield Park and La Selva branches while increasing hours and changing services at the six remaining branches. Scotts Valley would be open 52 hours per week with increased automotive services and Boulder Creek would be open 24 hours per week with a focus on youth.
On Feb. 8, the Santa Cruz City Council voted 6-1 in favor of Service Model D, in what was seen by some as a political move to sway the two Santa Cruz council members on the library joint powers authority to vote for Model D, which is touted as the most economically sound proposal.
