Scotts Valley A’s 7, Santa Cruz American Red Sox 0
The Scotts Valley Little League AAA A’s won the District 39 Tournament of Champions Tuesday in San Juan Batista behind the pitching of Ethan Turner-Garnette, who allowed only one hit through 5 1/3 innings while striking out eight and walking three.
Zephyr Christensen got the save, recording the final two outs on six pitches.
Tyler Costere had a single and an inside-the-park home run for the winners, Philip Garrison had a double, Turner-Garnette doubled and Camron Kufchak, Matthew Wu, Nolan Owens, Connor McEntee, Lukas Olbrecht, Justin Burnette and Jaden Muelman all had base hits.
The A’s went undefeated in their championship run, outscoring their opponents 33-8.
During the streak, the A’s defeated Capitola-Soquel 8-2, Aptos 8-4, Santa Cruz American 10-4 and finished the tournament with a second win over Santa Cruz American in the final.
Santa Cruz National 10, San Lorenzo Valley 4
The San Lorenzo Valley Angels were eliminated by the Santa Cruz National in the second game of the District 39 tournament. Previously, the San Lorenzo squad fell to Santa Cruz American, the eventual second-place team.
Majors Division
The Scotts Valley Rays finished the District 39 Tournament with an 0-2 record, falling to Santa Cruz American 4-1 and Live Oak 16-6.
The San Lorenzo Valley Giants finished the tournament 1-2. The team defeated Live Oak 6-5 in the first round before falling to Santa Cruz National 9-7 and PajaroValley 2-1 in the double-elimination tournament.
All Stars set to begin
Scotts Valley Little League will host the Majors District 39 All-Star tournament at Siltanen Park this year.
The tournament begins Saturday, June 23, and will feature teams from the central coast area. The 7- and 8-year-old tournament will be hosted by Capitola-Soquel Little League, the 8- and 9-year-old tournament will be hosted by Live Oak and Watsonville. The 10- and 11-year-olds will be hosted by Pajaro Valley Little League.
